DU HUO
Radix Angelicae Pubescentis
Duhuo is root of Angelica pubescens Maxim. f. biserrata Shan. et Yuan, family Umbelliferae.
3g Duhuo powder is put into 30ml diethyl ether, heated and regurgitated for 1 hour and filtered. The filtrate evaporates till dry, the residue is dissolved with 3ml petroleum ether (30-60oC) and filtered again. Adding 3ml ethanol into the residues and detected in the intraviolet light (365nm), it will show blue purplish fluorescence. (checking tonka bean camphor)

Property, taste, attributive meridian
Bitter and acrid in taste, slightly warm in nature, and attributive to kidney, bladder channel.
Function and indications
Expel the wind and remove dampness, disperse cold and relieve pain. Indicated for arthralgia due to wind-cold-dampness, pain in waist and knee, headache and toothache.
Chemical components
Coumarin compound, dihydrooroselol and acetic ester.

The photosensitizing substance in Duhuo (coumarin compound) has no obvious antisepsis generally, but when it is exposed together with staphylococcus aureus and escherichia coli, it has photosensitization and kills these bacteria
