SHE CHUANG ZI
Fructus Cnidii, Cnidium Monnieri
She Chuang Zi has been used for thousands of years in China for a variety of skin ailments from acne to eczema and ringworm. It is commonly found in lotions, creams and ointments. It is also used as a reproductive aid. Osthole is a coumarin which as been isolated from Cnidium monnieri. It apparently helps in male sexual dysfunction. Ostohole has also shown some promise as an agent for allergy diseases. |
Indication
- Warm the kidney and strengthen yang: For deficiency of kidney-yang manifested as impotence, sterility, soreness of the waist and knees, enuresis and frequent micturition.
- Deprive dampness and relieve itching (external use): For leucorrhagia with pruritis vulvae, eczema of scrotum, tinea, scabies, etc. Now it is prepared as vaginal suppository for trichomonas vaginitis.
Pharmacological Action
- Its alcoholic extract exerts a gonadotropic effect, i.e., prolong estruation, increase the weight of ovary and uterus in female mice and that of prostate, seminal vesicle and musculi levator ani in male mice.
- Relieving cyclophosphamide-induced leukopenia in mice.
- Inhibiting the growth of trichophyta in vitro.
